Carrot Fries… Fried foods should be eaten in moderation. So why not go for another starchy vegetable for fill your craving. Slice some carrots, drizzle with olive oil, add spice, and bake for about 20 minutes… Try it!

How Can I Keep My Blood Sugar at a Healthy Level?

  • Eat about the same amounts of food each day.

  • Eat your meals and snacks at about the same times each day.

  • Do not skip meals or snacks.

  • Take your medicines at the same times each day.

  • Exercise at about the same times each day.

Why Should I Eat About the Same Amount Each Day?

  • The food you eat turns into sugar and travels to your blood. This is called blood sugar. Your blood sugar goes up after you eat.

  • Keep your blood sugar at a healthy level by eating about the same amounts of food at about the same times each day.

  • Your blood sugar will not stay at a healthy level if you eat a big lunch one day and a small lunch the next day.

Diabetes Screening, ask yourself these questions…

Take this test, complete each questions by indicating the degree of incidence. (High, Medium, and Low). Your total number of point will indicate your risk factor.

  • High incidence: 10 points

  • Medium incidence: 5 points

  • Low incidence: 0 points

0 - 15 Points: You are at low risk
20 - 30 Points: You probably have pre-diabetes and should get tested.
35 or more Points: Very high, please seek medical evaluation.

OUR MISSION & WHAT WE DO

“Our mission is to empower the people of the Rosebud reservation with the knowledge and skills necessary for self-care management to improve their quality of life, using what they learn through diabetes education and disease management strategies.”

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe Diabetes Prevention Program has transpired over the years from youth prevention through education and fitness to incorporate services for adults.

We are now known as the Rosebud Wellness Center. We continue to offer a place for individuals to exercise, but now offer education for people with pre-diabetes and diagnosed diabetes, and provide general nutritional education.

Our staff continues to update their skills and knowledge to provide the latest information for the people of the Rosebud Reservation and surrounding area.
